Wednesday: Ayaat Prayer

26
May

Dear Believers,

Peace be upon you.

There will be a total lunar eclipse which will be visible over the majority of North America beginning early Wednesday, May 26th, 2021 wherein Salat al-Ayaat is obligatory (wajib). For more details about the lunar eclipse and the time it will occur in your respective area, please click here.  For those areas where a partial eclipse will be visible (when the earth’s shadow covers only a part of the moon) please referto the map for your location, as Salat al-Ayaat is also obligatory (wajib).

Religious obligation:

During a solar or lunar eclipse, it is obligatory (wajib) to perform a special prayer called Salat al-Ayaat. The prayer becomes wajib even if the moon or the sun are partially eclipsed, and even if they do not engender any fear.

The time of Salat al-Ayaat sets in as the eclipse starts and remains until the eclipse is over. It is better, however, not to delay the prayer until the reversal of eclipse commences, although it may be possible that the completion of Salat al-Ayaat may coincide with the time of reversal.

Note, that Salat al-Ayaat is not required upon a woman who is in her menses (haydh) or postpartum bleeding (nifas), nor would she be required to make-up the prayer (qadha).

How to perform the prayer of “al-Ayaat", a two unit (Rakah) prayer with five Ruku in each unit:

1.  Make the intention (Niyyah) of offering the prayers as “Salat al-Ayaat”.
2.  One should say Takbir: “Allahu Akbar”
3.  Recite Surat al-Fatiha and any other Surah*
4.  Then perform Ruku.
5.  After Ruku, then stand and recite Surat al-Fatiha and any other Surah and then perform another Ruku.
6.  One should repeat this action (steps 3 & 4) five times, and when one stands after the fifth Ruku, one should then proceed to perform the two Sajdah (as in the normal Fajr prayer).  Then stand up to perform the second Rakah in the same manner as was done in the first Rakah (with the five Ruku).
7.  After performing the second set of Sajdah, one should recite Tashahhud and end the prayer with Salam to complete it.

*Please note that a person is allowed to say Takbir and recite Surat al-Fatiha and then divide the verses of another Surah into five parts, and recite one verse or more or less, and thereafter perform the Ruku. One should then stand up and recite another part of the Surah (without reciting Surat al-Fatiha) and then perform another Ruku. This should be repeated and the Surah must be finished before performing the fifth Ruku. For more details see the Islamic Law Book by clicking here.

We ask the Almighty God to accept all your deeds and worships.

Eid al-Fitr 2021

بسم الله الرحمن الرحیم
In the name of Allah, The Most Gracious, The Most Merciful
Eid Fitr 1441/2020

Felicitous is he who purifies himself, celebrates the Name of his Lord, and prays.
Holy Qur’an [87, 14-15]

SPECIAL EID AL-FITR PROGRAM

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Salam Alaykum,

We are delighted to announce that Thursday, May 13th, 2021 will be the first day of the month of Shawwal, 1442, and Eid al-Fitr for the entire region of North America.

This determination is based on the fact that there were no verified sightings of the crescent moon by the naked eye at sunset on Tuesday, May 11th anywhere across the United States. Therefore Wednesday, May 12th is the last day of the month of Ramadan, and Thursday, May 13th is Eid al-Fitr.

Masjid Al-Rasool Congratulates you and all the Mo'mineen on the blessed occasion of Eid Al-Fitr. Despite all the challenges, we are thankful to have had the opportunity to be virtual guests of your houses during this holy month of Ramadan. In the spirit of unity, we bid farewell to this blessed month and bring you a special program to celebrate the arrival of Eid al-Fitr and reflect upon the spiritual revival brought to us by the month of Ramadan.

You are cordially invited to join us for the Eid prayer. We have organized two parallel in-person Eid prayers at Masjid al-Rasool, Simi Valley (prayer will be led by H.I. Modarres) and Masjid al-Nabi, West Covina (prayer will be led by H.I. Razavian) . The event will take place outdoors following physical distancing guidelines. Registration is NOT required. We recommend that you bring your own prayer rugs and mohr, if possible. The program will consist of the following:

7:00 AM – Dua an-Nudba
8:45 AM – Takbeerat
8:00 AM – Eid Prayer
8:20 AM – Eid Sermon
9:00 AM –  Breakfast

Breakfast and drinks will be served in to-go boxes.

ZAKĀT FITRAH فطریه

Zakat al-Fitrah should be set aside on the eve of Eid al-Fitr and paid on the day itself, which marks the end of Ramadan and the first day of the month of Shawwal.  Since there will no in-person Eid Prayers, please consider paying your Eid-Fitr in advance (see guidance on paying in advance below) so we can get the funds to the Faqeer (needy) in time for Eid. A sum must be paid on a person’s behalf as well as on behalf of all of the dependents. This would also include any guests who are staying overnight during the eve of Eid al-Fitr, under the care of the person. For further details, please refer your Marja's rulings or this reference: http://www.islamic-laws.com/fitra.htm

For every individual, the minimum given must be the equivalent of 6.6 pounds of a popular basic food commodity such as rice or wheat (flour), as opposed to a cooked full meal. For 2021, the estimated cost per person for Zakat-al-Fitra is $15. On the day of Eid, the zakat will be distributed to the poor.

You can give Zakāt al-Fitra any time during the month of Ramadan before the night of Eid but it’s mustahab to first give it as a loan and then to change your intention from it being a "loan" to "Zakāt al-Fitra" when the time for giving Zakat al-Fitra has entered.

The amount of Fidya/Kaffarah is 1.65 pounds of popular basic food commodity. The estimated cost per person for Fidya/Kaffrah is $5.00 per day.

You can pay your Zakat al-Fitra and Kaffarh on the day of Eid at the Masjid or use the link below to pay them and other related dues.
